help create an urban wilderness park in the Halifax Regional Municipality

We have the rare opportunity to establish an urban wilderness park now, that will be a part of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) forever. This future park and nature reserve has rare jack pines, wetlands, broom-crowberry barrens and mature forest. It borders two lakes (Colpitts and Williams). An ecological diamond, the property is home to more than 40 species of breeding birds and other wildlife. Already a popular spot to swim or hike, this 379-acre (153-hectare) urban wilderness park in the Williams Lake area of HRM will border on the Purcell’s Cove Backlands.

Before the urban wilderness park can be established, Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) must still raise $3.5 million. These funds will not only cover the immediate conservation of the site and establishment of the park, but will also ensure its perpetual care and maintenance.

This project will only be possible with the contributions of many who care – local communities members, HRM, The Shaw Group, and Nature Conservancy of Canada.
