help create an urban wilderness park in the Halifax Regional Municipality

Halifax is an amazing place to live, especially because of our connection to the natural world. Together Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), the city of Halifax, and the Shaw Group are working to make sure 153 hectares (379 acres) of natural, rugged wilderness at Williams Lake keeps connecting us, grounding us, and making our world a better place to live.

But we need your help to make the Shaw Wilderness Park a reality. Protecting places like this park is a big part of how you can help make Halifax a great place to raise a family, build your community, and create a more meaningful life.

This future park and nature reserve has rare jack pines, wetlands, broom-crowberry barrens and mature forest. An ecological diamond, the property is home to more than 40 species of breeding birds and other wildlife. Already a popular spot to swim or hike, this 379-acre (153-hectare) wilderness park in the Williams Lake area of HRM will border on the Purcell’s Cove Backlands.

Your gift will make history in Halifax. Our community has already raised 95% of the $8 million required to establish the park and ensure its long-term management and care.

Your donation* will support everything — the conservation and protection of the land itself to important infrastructure, like parking and signage. Plus, it will help unlock funding that the Halifax Regional Municipality, the Government of Nova Scotia, and the Government of Canada have committed, pending matching contributions from private citizens, like you.

Your contribution matters. Join the effort to keep Halifax wild for generations to come. Show your support by donating today!

*Donations are eligible for a tax receipt and may be pledged over time. Gifts may be made by cash, credit card, cheque, gift of stock, or other planned giving options.

**NCC may direct all or a portion of gifts committed to our provincial endowment fund. Revenue generated by the fund provides for the long-term management of properties. In the event this project is fully funded, your gift may be directed to the next urgent priority in the province.
